View Full Version : Let's spend ourselves blind in preparation of a terrorist attack.

We are flushing a bunch of money down the drain preparing the heartland for a terrorist threat which probably will never come. I read with interest an article in the Daily as to how the Newton County Sheriff's Department was getting prepared to counter any such attack here, and I could not help myself from the thought that this whole thing is the height of absurdity. The preparations are a joke and the people will never receive the training necessary to really counter anything. I know it is politically correct to go through the motions, but I have to ask myself just how effective these measures would be in the event of an attack on Neosho (yeah, I really lose sleep at night over the thought of that one) and just how much money do we have to spend to appease those who quake at the thought. We have added a major level of inconvience to air travel without significant reduction of threat and we are spending a bunch of money reacting to "elevated threat levels" on local level which are just not logical targets. It would seem to me, if we really wanted to lower the threat level, we would put into place a really tough program to track and deport illegal aliens and step up the controls at our points of entry into the country. Security at home begins with controlling our borders.

And now, almost two years and millions of dollars later and the question is still out there. Just how in the hell do you control a country when you do not control the borders of that country?

I do find it so ironic that we finger print and photo idea everyone from Europe coming into this county yet the southern border is left wide open.
I’m assuming Scutter that you are referring to our southern border.
If someone wanted to attack this county they would simple have to get into South America get to the southern border then just walk in.
But not to worry Scutter....... King George and his round table of corporate leaders are taking about immigration reform again and this ideal of knowing who and where they are will be used to sell the America people on this bill of goods.

Phoenix, the Canadian border is every bit as wide open as the Mexican border as are a number of ports on the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts. I am inclined to say if the Federal Government can't handle the job (and it is pretty certain that they can't, or won't) then it is probably time to turn some of the function of border control over to the states contiguous to those borders.
