A nine year old boy called 911 and told the operator his mommy was lying on the floor and all the operator could do was to give the kid the riot act and hung up. He called back and was told if he called again the police would be notified.

His father is now seeking a wrongful death in his wife who had died at the house.

I understand that sometimes kids call to see what might happen, however I was also under the impression that regardless they are obliged to send out at least a unit to investigate.......

That is correct Dragonrider. The 911 dispatcher is on the hook not only for a civil action but can also face criminal charges.

One of my sons did that when I was stationed at Keesler and they sent base security. While neither he nor I got in trouble the security DID scare the willies outta the boy - took him out to his car at my request and let him sit there for 5 or 10.... Never had a problem again..... tho base 911 DID call back and confirm whether or not 911 was indeed needed..

Having read the article, I've come to the following conclusion - they need to devise a flowchart of questions for younger callers not just ASSUME they're playing on the phone. In this instance the 911 operator, with the kid saying "Mommy's on the floor" the next question should have been - try to wake her up, do you know where your heart is??? check momies.. Where's your daddy? If nothing else especially with a 5 year old caller find out WTF!!!!!

One "representative" stated that 40% of the calls that come in are not emergencies. OK how many of them DID need medical attention??? Come the math isn't that hard. Yeah kids play games but I'd say that more often than not when it's their mommy they ain't playin......

Not sure how things work in Detroit, but I do know for certain that Newton County 911 dispatch does have a scenario checklist or flowchart type guide for any call they receive, and I can't think of any scenario at all that wouldn't include dispatching an officer, even if it were "unknown situation". As well, each call received is recorded, later listened to and graded by supervisors - each dispatch operator must maintain something like 96% or higher of the metrics to keep their employment. It's pretty much SOP for any emergency dispatch center. It sounds to me like the system in Detroit has some real problems, and a rogue 911 operator isn't the half of it.

I know for a fact that Newton County 911 operators do call back and check if there is a real emergency. When my daughters where younger, they learned about calling 911 at school and while I stepped into the kitchen only a few feet away, they called and told the operator one of them had a broken foot. Needless to say, after the call ended the operator called back and asked if everything was okay and did say that if it happened again that an officer would come out to the house, without calling to double check on everything.

It was a 5 year old boy, and the lawyer is only suing for a Million, That's BOGUS,, It should be more.
Anyway,,, ANOTHER 9-1-1 tape from Detroit has surfaced of a Woman that was shot by her husband.
The SAME VOICE to Me of the 9-1-1 operator is calling the shooting victim a liar, a mental patient etc!
The 9-1-1 operator NEVER sent anyone!
The Victim is paralyzed but alive. She also has the same attorney as the 5 year old.

That 9-1-1 operator needs to be liquidated of ALL assets, and placed in prison for the next 25 years to life! She is a DANGER to ALL!
