In a 2005 poll covering 33 countries, Americans are the least likely (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/15/science/sciencespecial2/15evo.html?_r=1&oref=slogin) (except for Turkish respondents) to assert that 'humans developed ... from earlier species of animals.' Iceland, meanwhile, has an 85% acceptance rating for evolution (http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2006/08/14/science/sciencespecial2/20050815_EVO_GRAPHIC.html). The blurb on the site for Science magazine is less circumspect about the findings:
"The acceptance of evolution is lower in the United States than in Japan or Europe, largely because of widespread fundamentalism and the politicization of science in the United States."

This sooooooooo cracks me up!!!

They just can't admit to the fact that sixty five million years ago we were nothing more than furry little rodents hiding in the rocks Admin. I will remind you that a squirrel is nothing more than a rat with a fuzzy tail.

Humans are still developing. It's obvious. A hundred years ago, very few women were taller than 5 foot 4, and very few men taller than five foot eight. That is evolution. Adaptation. Why is it so hard for these silly people to understand that Charles Darwin never said man came from apes. We certainly have always been man, but the look of man has changed over the years, and is still changing.

In some ways, I would wager to say we are devolving. Take a look at any fast food junky who does little but watch television all day and never takes any exercise or has a deep thought. We have made things too easy for ourselves (some more than others).

Yes but, when civilization destroys itself and we are all forced to revert to our natural status, the laws of natural selection will rapidly weed out the fat, dumb and happy.

Very good point. How much basic survival knowledge has been lost between today and say my great-grandfather's time. Imagine just needing an ax, a mule, a rifle and a few food staples and making a life out of that. My great-grandmother knew the healing properties of this root and that flower, knew how to gather and store food properly with no refrigeration. Nowadays it seems like a lot of people would roll over and die if the electricity went out.

If only people could understand evolution before they make misguided judgements about it.

All it means is that we are changing over the years. Duh. (I hate using that word, but it fits here.)

It doesn't mean there's no God. It just means that if there is a God (I believe there is) He created us in such a manner that we grow and develop due to numerous factors, also of His making.

well they didn't roll over and die, but they certainly had a rough go of it. we never prepare for the things that we should.
