Has anybody noticed the recent activity at the old 84 Lumber property. They have a couple of Big Trucks up front with a phone number for OTR drivers. They also have several dumpsters and old trash trucks on the property. They also have unloaded several pallets (50-100), and are storing them under the old lumber awnings. Just curious if anybody had any info.

Might be some Outfit, that the Economic Development People, got conned by. Probably Nuclear Waste, or Bio-Hazards, may be
Nauseous Toxic Chicken By-Products. They are Strategically located, to dump into the Headwaters of Buffalo Creek, so I figure Gibs Bunch, had something to do with them. That could be the New Remote Parking Area, for the Hugh Robinson Intercontinental Airport

Someone decided to open or relocate a business and figured it was a great open spot near the new highway. Instead of assuming the Econ Dev got conned why not be happy that a new business is opening up in Neosho. Not everything is a conspiracy in this town, as some would like to believe.
I think youre right didfit.
It is "Nauseous Toxic Chicken By-Products" stored near the "New Remote Parking Area, for the Hugh Robinson Intercontinental Airport" so we can now ship it world wide and share it with everyone else at a moments notice.
Just wait for the orders to come pouring in.

I should have left my rose colored glasses on. It might only be
some poor local businessman, that needed another
location, to hide from the EPA, or DNR. It might be another, out of town, fly by night outfit, looking to rip the heart out of, the poor working people of Newton County. It might be, someone like Sunbeam, or Talbot, maybe a Lazy-Boy spin-off, another Wire Welding Co., or a crappy Chicken, or Egg production facility. You can bet, if, it is new, it's not here for our good.
Now, I will use the old Local #658 Disclaimer,-
"Not saying anything Bad About Them, but"
---this phrase is public domain, and is free for all to use--

Have been looking for the Local Industry, in this town, that was not part of a conspiracy, for over Sixty Years. Still looking.

What keeps you here in this awful town then?

The same thing that keeps most of us here Neosho Girl. We are just too heavily invested in this town to ever get our money back.

I'm not sure why the semi's and pallets are there but i've heard roll-off is moving in there for a neosho base of operations.

Roll off is moving. Call the National Guard. A conspiracy with the Chamber and Econ Dev is in the works.

Ok, to clear the air about the old 84 lumber building, this is the scoop. It is Rolloff that bought it. They are going to be shipping in lawn and garden materials ie., fertilizer, planting soil and stuff like that. The stuff coming in is from Wal-Mart and Sams Clubs. They are going to repackage it (since it won't be sold at a discounted rate) under a generic name, shipped back to the stores and sold as a Wal-Mart or Sam's club brand. But that is just what i've heard

Leave it to WalMart to find a way to really sell "garbage".

I wonder why Lowe's think they will do any better than 84 Lumber?
Lowe’s has a different niche in the market and they have very liberal financing and delivery terms.
The hardest impact will be on anyone selling appliances and furniture, then on building supplies. Their geographic impact will be smaller than one would expect and in the end no new revenue will be generated for the city. Jobs will only move from those who can no longer compete to the BIG BOX.
So goes faux economic development in Neosho!

I bet it will just be another abandoned building in five or ten years... How depressing!

From the Joplin Globe...
Neosho council gives go-ahead to plan for Lowe’s
By Derek Spellman
NEOSHO, Mo. — The Neosho City Council has approved a measure to help clear the way for a Lowe’s home-improvement store in the city.
The ordinance adopted Tuesday expands the city’s tax increment financing district to include the future site of the store, which is to go in across from the Wal-Mart Supercenter. Under the city’s TIF program, a portion of local property and sales taxes generated by the store will be used to finance public projects in that area.
In the case of the Lowe’s project, about $500,000 in TIF money will be used principally for street and drainage work, said City Manager Jan Blase. That work is to include a new access road and upgrading Clemon Drive.
Blase said the TIF financing should generate enough revenue to pay off those projects within several years.
Ryan Swanson, a site development manager for Lowe’s, said Monday that the company hopes to begin work later this month or in August and to complete construction sometime next year, pending city approval of building permits.
In other business Tuesday, the council approved an agreement with Midwest Hangar Group Inc. for the construction of hangars at the airport. The group is to replace current hangars with both T-hangars and corporate jet hangars.
Store formats
Maureen Rich, a Lowe’s spokeswoman, said Lowe’s generally has two types of stores.
The first consists of a 117,000-square-foot building, with an additional 30,000-square-foot garden space. That type of store typically will employ 175 people.
The second type usually totals about 94,000 square feet, with an additional 26,000 square feet for garden space. About 120 people usually are employed at such a store, Rich said.

I like Lowes. :D
Well that’s just great shinobi! All this will do is force more home owned businesses out and migrate some employees around town.
By some accounts the billboards in NW Arkansas will probably bring thousands to shop at Lowes Neosho, but in the end the only people in Neosho that will benefit financially from this development are the same people who are using “ YOUR” tax money to fill their own pockets…Does that description make sense…
This is why I hurl at the mention of the Chamber and (ED).

Yeah, it's weird I know. I can't stand WalMart but I really like Lowes. Guess that makes me a bad person.:(

Have always used and will continue to use Southerland's in Joplin. In Lowe's there is virtually no customer service and that makes it a non issue for me.

Loving a big box, I understand.
Hating a big box, I understand.
Hating a new big box that hasn't even opened its doors in your back yard, yet shopping at that SAME big box in another town...
don't get it....

Jeff, off topic just for a moment. Do you think you can nudge Persinger and/or Langland to join the Forums?

I don't think I have much persuasive power right now. I am thinking that needs to be their personal choice.

quit pushing. Nobody cares what either one of those "Howard clones" has to say. Besides, in eight short months we plan to vote Matt out anyway.

Not pushing, Scutter, just keeping-or trying to- keep the door open, however, it is apparent that my request has fallen of deaf ears.
Jeff, thanks again for keping in touch with the public.
