Council OKs pickup purchase to replace truck lost in fire
By MICHELLE PIPPIN / Daily News staff writer
Neosho's city council on Tuesday approved the purchase of a 2004 Ford pick-up for the city's Public Works Department to replace the one lost last month in a fire.
The department's 1996 Ford F250 was parked in the city's Public Work's garage on Dec. 17 when Public Works Assistant Director Doug Hudson happened by and found smoke billowing from the garage. The fire is believed to have been started by a shorted wire near the truck's battery. Insurance valued the truck at $10,825 and it was declared a total loss.
Jamie Otten, Public Works director, told the city council the truck was a crucial piece of equipment for the department, and it was deemed necessary to replace it.
After checking with the Missouri Department of Transportation on the state bid, the city has approved the purchase of a new, 2004 Ford pick-up for $19,406. The difference between the insurance pay-off and the cost of the new truck, $8,581, will come from Public Works' vehicle maintenance account.
Electrical wiring in the garage's ceiling and doors was also damaged in the fire, but no other major equipment was affected.
